It all happened so fast.
She had been curled up in the back of the plane, watching Peeta sleep. Not sleep really. But she could pretend he was asleep.
The images she had seen...she couldn't get them out of her mind. She was glad that they had put her and Peeta into a seperate hoover craft. Away from Gale, and conversations she didn't want to have.
About how bad that place was.
About the fact that Peeta had been down there. And Johanna. And Annie. And who knew how many other people they hadn't been able to rescue. Cinna? Effie? Portia?
Being alone to watch Peeta in his unconscious state was about the only thing that saved her. Because when she woke up after the huge flash of light and deafening sound that exploded out of nowhere, the back end of the hovercraft was upside down, and some distance away from what remained of the front end.
Which was not much.
She sat up, body aching and head spinning. It took a moment to orient herself, and might have taken longer if her mind hadn't lighted on one thought.
Peeta.

Peeta.

How? How had he been stung, without her noticing?
Still, it made sense. All his behavior began to come together. She had been out...a long time. Waiting for him to wake up wasn't an option.
Sighing, Katniss stood, gripping him under the arms and working her way back into the under brush with him. It wasn't much but it'd be something.

Katniss.
He tensed. Had she been real? His breaths quickened in panic and he began to shake. He couldn't move, all of his limbs feeling too heavy. He was going to die here.

She had also managed to find some of Rue's leaves, chewing them and pasting them to any marks of tracker jackers she could find.
Moving down, slowly, quietly, she watched him.

"Hey, you, hungry?" She asked, staying a bit back.

She let out a huff of breath, before moving to crouch down in front of him, and picking a piece of meat from the leaves.
"Please, eat Peeta. I don't..." Her voice dropped, catching unexpectedly. "What's wrong with you?"

She sat back, the meat still held between her fingers. it would be easy enough to prove he was wrong, but she was dumbstruck that he would even think so.

Her worry was turning into anger. Anger was easier to deal with. She held the meat up to punctuate her point, glistening between them.

His fist tightened, nails biting into his skin. There were flashes. Of pleasant things. A cave. A moment in a garden. Those were the lies. They had to be.

And she shoved the piece of meat against his lips.

"See? No poison. Peeta, why in the hell would I ever try to poison you"

She never told him though. It would always be a mystery. She wanted him dead because she'd gone crazy with power. Or because she hated him. Or...he didn't know. He never knew. His mind circled making his head spin and him groan lowly.

Which she had insisted on. Good men, and a hovercraft. Things they couldn't spare. It was too late for guilt.

He couldn't keep control. Everytime he thought he had the anger pinned down it boiled over again, "You've wanted me dead since the beginning!"
no subject
How could he still have this much venom in him?
"Peeta. Listen to me. You were stung by tracker jackers again. That's why nothing makes sense. But I am not your enemy."
no subject
The confusion didn't matter to him. He'd seen what she'd done. To District 12. To his family and friends. To the other districts not alligned with her cause.
"If you want to kill me, don't play games...Please Katniss."

Something was wrong. Deeply wrong. It wasn't just a few stings.
"Peeta. Please, listen to me. We are lost, in the woods. We were shot down after rescuing you. Do you understand?"
no subject
omg I figured out what's wrong with sarah.
She remembered being stung. How nothing made sense, and everything slipped away too quickly, or too slowly, and your mind went everywhere.
"You have to trust me. For our safety. Peeta, I've never hurt you."

"Lied so many times..."
