It all happened so fast.
She had been curled up in the back of the plane, watching Peeta sleep. Not sleep really. But she could pretend he was asleep.
The images she had seen...she couldn't get them out of her mind. She was glad that they had put her and Peeta into a seperate hoover craft. Away from Gale, and conversations she didn't want to have.
About how bad that place was.
About the fact that Peeta had been down there. And Johanna. And Annie. And who knew how many other people they hadn't been able to rescue. Cinna? Effie? Portia?
Being alone to watch Peeta in his unconscious state was about the only thing that saved her. Because when she woke up after the huge flash of light and deafening sound that exploded out of nowhere, the back end of the hovercraft was upside down, and some distance away from what remained of the front end.
Which was not much.
She sat up, body aching and head spinning. It took a moment to orient herself, and might have taken longer if her mind hadn't lighted on one thought.
Peeta.

Peeta.

"Dammit Peeta. Half the capitol wants to kill us. I don't know what the hell is wrong with you but you better figure it out."
She jerked forward on the rope, wanting to move. Wanting to get out of here before they were found.

His head twitches and his eyes seem to lose focus, twitching to look at several things in front of him that are clearly not there.

That didn't make any sense. And strangely her brain caught on the fact that his brother's didn't have corpses. There was nothing left at the bakery.
But she didn't think saying that would help the situation.
"Peeta, I wasn't even in 2 when it burned."

"We're moving. Come on. Now."
Hopefully she could boss him into it.

"No!"

She tried to get out of the way, but she was not expecting it. The sudden difference between pulling with all her weight, and then suddenly having him coming straight as her threw her off balance.
She went down into the muddy dirt on the creek bed with a grunt, and braced herself for Peeta to make contact.

"Peeta, what the hell are you doing?" She gasped out, trying to struggled out from under him. Her hands came up, pushing at his shoulders, trying to get free.

Sh let out a huff, her head falling back onto the mossy ground to star at the bits of blue that would appear and vanish in the shifting leaves above them.
The forest was quite. But she could hear birds, animals. Hopefully that was a good sign.
Finally she braced herself, making a shove to try to roll his weight off of her.

They weren't going to be going anywhere soon, so hopefully the Capitol wouldn't find them.
Lifting his head up, she gently brought it into her lap, soothing his hair.
"Easy, Peeta...easy."

And she didn't think that would be happening.
She wanted to go scout for a safe place for them tonight. And dinner. But she didn't trust leaving him here alone. He might be gone, and if he wasn't, she didn't want to leave him a sitting duck.

How? How had he been stung, without her noticing?
Still, it made sense. All his behavior began to come together. She had been out...a long time. Waiting for him to wake up wasn't an option.
Sighing, Katniss stood, gripping him under the arms and working her way back into the under brush with him. It wasn't much but it'd be something.

Katniss.
He tensed. Had she been real? His breaths quickened in panic and he began to shake. He couldn't move, all of his limbs feeling too heavy. He was going to die here.

She had also managed to find some of Rue's leaves, chewing them and pasting them to any marks of tracker jackers she could find.
Moving down, slowly, quietly, she watched him.

"Hey, you, hungry?" She asked, staying a bit back.
